Jerry Ashley Watson, 64, of Valdosta, died on Thursday, March 30, 2006 at his residence after a lengthy illness. Born on March 31, 1941in Hahira, he was the son of the late Paul Grover and Bessie Lucille Ashley Watson.
He was a graduate of Berry College in Rome, GA and served in the Georgia Army National Guard for 12 years. He retired from Georgia Power after 37 year of employment. He was a technical training specialist for 7 years with Georgia Transmission Corporation in Smarr, GA. He was a former member of the evening Lions Club. Mr. Watson helped establish Eastern Heights Baptist Church and was a member of Southland Church for 6 years. He became the first deacon of Seasons Church, where he had been a member for the past 3 years.
He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Douglas, his peek-a-poo and special pet was a good friend to him. He enjoyed building porches onto his home and watching the birds and squirrels from them.
Survivors are his wife, Bobbi Watson; daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Kenny Hughes, Sherry and Roger McCranie; son, Melton Watson all of Valdosta; his children by marriage, daughters and sons-in-law, Kelley and Gary Fisher of Valdosta, Bonnie and Bruce Damm of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren and their spouses, Dewayne Hughes, Bryan Hughes, Stephanie and Jose` Perez, Melanie and Josh King, Jessica McDonald, Sarah Watson, Michael Watson, Robert Damm, Ryan Damm, Savannah Read, Tristan Read, Emily Fisher; great grandchildren, Austin Hughes, Clayton Hughes, Braetin Hughes, Katie Perez, Deanna Perez, Hayden King, Ashton King, Julion McDonald; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joy and Keith Wiggins of Colorado; Allen and Ginny Catoe of Valdosta, David and Mitsi Catoe of Glen St. Mary, FL; parents-in-law, Robert and Joyce Catoe of Valdosta; numerous nieces and nephews including a special nephew and his wife, Jimmy and Shell Watson of Atlanta. He was preceded in death by his brother, Melton (Bud) Watson, a grandson, Colby Read, and his first wife, Agnes Ann Watson.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2006 at Seasons Church (corner of Park Ave. & Forrest St.) with Pastor Lee Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
