Jefferson Davis (J.D.) Tomlinson
J.D. Tomlinson, 90, of Mayday, Georgia passed away Thursday, May 27, 2010 at Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta. Mr. Tomlinson was retired from reforestation and farming. Born on December 5, 1919 in Echols County to the late Benjamin Stalvey and Rachel Luther (Howell) Tomlinson, he was a humble man of few words, remaining faithful to God throughout his life. He was a devoted husband to his childhood sweetheart, Jonnie Lee (Moore) Tomlinson. They would have celebrated 70 years of marriage on July 20, 2010. Mr. Tomlinson was a loving father and �granddaddy�. His favorite thing to do in his last months was to sit on his back porch in his rocking chair and be entertained by his chickens, watch the growing of the vegetable garden, the flowers blooming and the lawn being mowed; all of which reminded him of the happy days in his younger years.
Mr. Tomlinson was preceded in death by nine brothers and two sisters, Sherman and Narcissa Tomlinson, Ausbin and Maggie Tomlinson, Perman and Gladys Tomlinson, Loyd and Eunice Tomlinson, L.M. and Alberta Tomlinson, Isbin and Eloise Tomlinson, Bill and Karen Tomlinson, Magruder and Margaret Tomlinson, Ralph Tomlinson, Lula and Roy Strickland, and Marie and Leland Herring.
Survivors include his wife, Jonnie Lee (Moore) Tomlinson; sons and daughters-in-law, Derrell and Joyce Tomlinson of Mayday, Clyde and Kathryn Tomlinson of Valdosta, daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra Gail and Lynn Hughes of Lake Park, Anita and Hank Mayer of Lake Park. His grandchildren include Brian McCann of Valdosta, Lori and Ryan Tenery of Valdosta, Tim Hughes of Lake Park, Angela Hughes of Lake Park, Abigail and Corey Davis of Lake Park, Cheryl Tomlinson of Tallahassee, Florida, Kevin Mayer of Charlottesville, Virginia and Jason Mayer of Lake Park. Great grandchildren include Noah and Kalee McCann and Cameron Davis.
Other survivors include many loved nieces and nephews; a special niece, Wynell Spells and her husband, Ronnie, and Mr. and Mrs. Tomlinson�s beloved Pastor and friends, Reverend Jimmy and Julia Hiers of Doerun, GA. Also dear to his heart was a young lady who has been a family friend since her childhood, Gloria Smith. Mr. Tomlinson is also survived by his loving caregivers, Angelika Rose Valequez, Mary Rewis, Mary Corbett, Angie (Dixon) Carter, Angie McDonald, and so many other wonderful people who have helped in so many ways to make his life happier during the last months.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 29, 2010, at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend Jimmy Hiers will officiate. Burial will follow at Wayfare Cemetery.
