Jeanne Davis Selph, 72, of Valdosta died Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born on October 8, 1936 in Ware County to the late Custus Edward and Nellie Aline Music Davis and had lived in Valdosta since 1954. Mrs. Selph was a member of the Northside Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was graduate of Waresboro High School where she was valedictorian. She taught science and biology at Valdosta High School and Valwood School and retired as a supervisor from the Department of Family and Childrens Services. She enjoyed reading and being with her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Selph was an inspiration to many people through her disability.
Survivors include a daughter and son in law, Jeannie and Ray Gupton, two sons and a daughter in law, Michael Selph, Mark and Beth Selph all of Valdosta, eight grandchildren, Corey Jaramillo, Taylor Jaramillo, Brawdy Gupton, Evan Selph, Ethan Selph, Rhonda Hightower, Samantha Hightower and Luke Carney, her sister, Florence Lawhorn of Fayetteville, GA., two nephews and their wives, Robert and Marie Myles of Covington, GA and Steven and Malika Myles of Greenville, SC.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Friday, January 16, 2009 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Willis officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
