Jean Carolyn Scala Kerestan, 68, died October 17, 2015, in the emergency room at South Georgia Medical Center after a long illness. Jeanie was born October 7, 1947, in Valdosta and had lived here most of her life. She was a retired school teacher and had taught at Quitman Elementary for 28 years. She had a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a Master's degree in Reading from Valdosta State College. She was a Reading Specialist at Quitman Elementary.
She is survived by her son, Brian Kerestan (Vicki); her sister, Anne Scala Ellison; her brother, John Scala; grandsons, Luke and Gabriel Kerestan; a special caregiver, Maryline Bridgeforth, all of Valdosta. She is also survived by two nieces, Laurie Ellison of Melbourne , FL and Mary Jane Harrison of Evans, GA. Jeanie was devoted to her animals and leaves behind a dog, Lulabell and two cats, Little Itch and Eloise. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maxine and Joe Scala.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Rev. Bob Moon will officiate. The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home beginning at 12:00 p.m., prior to processing to the cemetery.Carson McLane Funeral Home
