Jeanette "Nette" Roberson

d. August 7, 2022

Jeanette “Nette” Roberson, age 81, passed away August 7, 2022, after a lengthy conflict with Alzheimer’s dementia. This wife, mother, educator, and volunteer is now reunited with her spouse of over 61 years, Clyde J. Roberson, her son Christopher C. Roberson, her brother Dewey Lee Rykard, and her parents George E. and Anna N. Rykard.
Jeanette was born in Valdosta, Georgia and graduated from Valdosta High School. Later, after the marriage to her high school sweetheart and birth of 3 children, Jeanette accepted the challenge of obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at Georgia Southern College. She then continued her educational pursuits by graduating with a master’s degree in library science. Jeanette filled the libraries of Salley D. Meadows of Vidalia, Georgia and Bartow Elementary of Savannah, Georgia with her enthusiasm of reading for knowledge, adventure, or pleasure.
Clyde and Jeanette returned to reunite with family and friends in Valdosta for their retirement. This couple found an amazing fellowship in the congregation of Park Avenue Methodist which became their church home. Until the ravages of dementia limited her abilities, Jeanette had a heart for service. Combined with her faith, she attended many mission trips, Women’s Retreats, and weekly “singing” trips to area retirement villages. Her unencumbered acts of kindness paired with her witty sense of humor led her to always have a smile for strangers as she volunteered as a “Pink Lady” for SGMC. And, although Jeanette never proclaimed any culinary prowess, she was always quick to whisk ample supplies of peanut brittle for the United Methodist Women’s Bazaar. Being an adventurer at heart gave Jeanette a passion for traveling to experience different cultures and cuisines, often cajoling Clyde to accompany her to destinations foreign and domestic.
Jeanette is survived by her daughter Cynthia (Larry) Phillips, her son A. Kevin (Charlotte) Roberson, her grandchildren Cole and Evan Phillips and Caroline and Andrew Roberson, and one great grandchild Miriam Phillips.
Jeanette would challenge everyone to experience life, cherish one another, and count every moment a blessing. Family and friends are invited for a remembrance of her life on Monday, August 22, 2022, at 10:00 am, at Sunset Hills Cemetery. The family would not be offended by those wishing to honor Jeanette’s memory by wearing garments in her favorite color: pink. The family asks for no flowers. Instead, please consider a donation to Park Avenue Methodist Church, Alzheimer’s Association, or your charity of choice in her memory. This family extends a special thanks to those that have a heart for service as caregivers and staff to those suffering with cognitive decline.
Condolences to the family may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com Carson McLane Funeral Home
