Jeanette George

Jeanette George, 98, of Valdosta, ended her life journey on November 9, 2018. She lived at home independently with the support of her family until the Lord called her home. Born December 18, 1919 in Jacksonville, FL to Kelly and Zakeyek George, she grew up in Jacksonville as one of six children. Following graduation from high school she worked in her family’s business. In 1949 after several years of courtship she married Frank George, a young man just out of World War II military service, and moved to Valdosta, GA. There she became part of a close community of family and friends.
She was a woman who loved her children and her husband, who passed away in 1977, and enjoyed time with her friends. She encouraged her children and provided the environment for them to grow and achieve their goals. She cherished the time with her children and grandchildren who reciprocated with their love for her. Whether she was tending to her children, playing bridge with friends, working at the local soup kitchen or taking care of grandchildren there was a determination that served her well in maintaining her high standards.
Her children include Don George and his wife Bettina, of Mountain Rest, SC; Jan Howard and her husband Kenny, of Macon; Glenn George and his wife Susan, of Dacula, GA and Frank George and his wife Gaye, of Valdosta. Her grandchildren include Mac McLane, Kelly Gilbert and her husband Blake, Brett George and his wife Lauren, Laurel George, Judson George, Cannon George, Evans George; step grandchildren, Joey Howard and his wife Anne; Mandy Starkweather and her husband Robert; great grandchildren Laney Elizabeth Gilbert and Henry Ellis George; and step great grandchildren, Taylor Howard, Cooper Howard, Chris Starkweather and Chelsea Starkweather. She is survived by other family members which include her sister in law, Yvonne George and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by all her children, grandchildren and other family members.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 11, 2018 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Phil Anderson will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday. The family thanks the staff of the SGMC Medical Surgery ICU, Step Down unit and the Langdale Hospice House for the excellent care provided.
