Jean Maine Davis won her battle with cancer on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at the Langdale Hospice House surrounded by all of her loving family. She was born October 9, 1941 to the late Eddie and Mamie DeLoach Maine in Statenville, GA. She was a life long resident of Echols County and had lived in the Mayday community for over 55 years. Mrs. Davis was employed with Levi Strauss for many years and had retired from Echols County Board of Education, where she was a bus driver. She babysat numerous children throughout the years in her home. She was always known to them all as simply Granny or Granny Jean. She kept all six of her grandchildren all throughout their childhoods and each one shared a very special bond with their Granny. She was a wonderful cook and loved to share her meals with her family around her dining room table. So many precious memories were made during these times. She was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church and their prayers and thoughtfulness during her illness meant so very much to her and her family.
Mrs. Davis is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Michael and Cathy Davis of Mayday; two daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle and Ricky Rewis of Haylow-Tarver, and Hope and Israel Cortez of Mayday. Her six grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Cole and Taylor Davis, Sara Davis and fiancé Trey Mitchell, Brett Rewis, Jacob, Savannah, and Caroline Cortez; and her great grandchildren Brennen and Addilyn Davis. Also surviving are her sisters Eloise and Frank Helton of Blairsville, Gail and Gerald Fussell of Valdosta, Bonnie and Kenneth Lowery of Cartersville, Sandra and Frank Reifel of Blue Ridge, Janet and Allen McDowell of Blue Ridge, and Margie and Bucky Davis of Lakeland, GA; and her brother, Bobby Maine of Acworth, GA; one sister-in-law, Charlene Davis of Valdosta; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also survived by some very special family Vernon and Juanita Davis. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 49 years, Wayne Davis, her infant son Jeffery Randall Davis, her sister and brother-in-law Frances and Cecil Jarrard, her brother and sister-in-law Edward and Gail Maine, her sister-in-law Glenda Maine, her brother-in-law Charles Davis, and her sister-in-law Ann Bussey, and two nephews Tony Maine and Spencer Helton.
Funeral services for Mrs. Davis will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2019 at Macedonia Baptist Church with Brother Wayne Boykin officiating. Burial will follow at Wayfare Cemetery.
