Jean Farris Deloach

April 1, 1931 — June 5, 2013

Jean Farris DeLoach, 82, of Valdosta, passed away at her home on June 5, 2013 due to complications from a hiatal hernia. She was born April 1, 1931, to Melvin and Mary Farris in Port Townsend, Washington. Her father worked in the paper mill industry and moved the family throughout the country. After graduating from High School in Lufkin, Texas and attending college, the family moved to Fernandina and Jacksonville Florida. In 1953 the family moved to the city of Valdosta where her father opened O&I Paper Mill.

Jean worked for First Baptist Church, the Georgia Department of Labor and DeLoach Hardware.
She was active in a variety of things especially caring for her pig, Whitey. She was president of her Sunday school class at the First Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend.

Mrs. DeLoach is survived by her husband of 58 years, Fred DeLoach Jr. and two children: a son Fred DeLoach III (Butch) and his wife, Holly of Atlanta and a daughter, Beth DeLoach Meeks and her husband, Kenny of Valdosta. Two step grandchildren survive Mrs. DeLoach: Kenny Meeks Jr and his wife, Casey; and Kyle Meeks, all of Valdosta. She is also survived by three step great grandsons Kason, Kale and Kallan Meeks. Other survivors include, brother Charles Farris and his wife, Pauline; a niece, Joni Farris and nephew John Farris, his wife Cari; a great nephew and niece, Ben and Lilly Farris, all of Texas; a brother in law and his wife Mr. and Mrs. Wallace DeLoach and Julie Jarvis, the Mike Jarvis family and the Steve Califf family, all of Valdosta.

Services will be held in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday June 9, 2013 with Rev. Mac Weaver officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Georgia Sheriffs' Boys Ranch, Hahira, GA and First Baptist Church, Valdosta, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
