Jayne Carter

September 16, 1947 — December 6, 2020

Jayne Carter, 73, of Valdosta passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 6, 2020, after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was born on September 16, 1947 in Valdosta to the late G. Robert and Ruth Sego Carter. Jayne was a graduate of Lowndes High School and Valdosta State College where she earned a Bachelors degree in accounting. She went on to work with Shell and Hogan C.P.A. in St. Simons Island, and later retired from the Lowndes County School System as a substitute teacher. Jayne was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Seekers Sunday school class, and the UMC Circle 4.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Gina and Justin Reynolds of Grovetown, Georgia, Kimberly and Bill Pate of Valdosta, and Nancie and Jon Geddings of Charleston, South Carolina; her grandchildren, Jessica Willis and Tyler Willis both of Valdosta, Kyle Reynolds of Nashville, Tennessee, Katelynn Reynolds of Warner Robins, Will Pate of Valdosta, and Ssgt. W. Joseph Pate of Queens, New York; two great-grandchildren, Eloise (Ellie) Willis of Valdosta, and Alton Kyle Reynolds of Warner Robins; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy and Rodney Ellington of Clyattville, and June and Mel Ricks of Lake Park; numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by Earl Copeland, the father of her children. Special thanks to Betsy Garland and Colette Prine of Hospice of South Georgia for their devotion to Jayne and her care.
A private family graveside service will be held at Unity Cemetery with The Reverend Dr. Anthony McPhail officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, Hospice of South Georgia, or the Lowndes County Humane Society.
