Janie Dixon Newton, 90, of Morven died Monday, November 1, 2010 at the home of her daughter after a brief illness. She was born in Brooks County on July 21, 1920 to the late Luallen and Nan Coppage Dixon. Mrs. Newton was a kind and compassionate lady who loved everyone. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She worked for many years at Levi's and had spent most of her life living in and around Morven. Mrs. Newton was an active member of the Campground Methodist Church.
Survivors include her two children, Sue (Jim) Hall, Robert (Shirley) Newton all of Hahira, four grandchildren, Tony (Kelly) Harris of Edwardsville, Illinois, Melissa (Doug) Donnell of Atlanta, Keith (Angie) Harris of Valdosta and Lance (Tammy) Hall of Hahira, twelve great grandchildren, son in law, Bruce Harris of Hahira, other survivors include her "adopted" family, Everett and Faye Stanton and their three children, Everett, Virginia and Sid. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Newton, a daughter, Martha N. Harris and two sisters, Doris Hall and Eva Hall.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Thursday, November 4, 2010 in the chapel of Martin/McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Smith and Rev. Anna Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery in Morven. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
