Janice Wisenbaker Allen, 66, of Valdosta, Georgia, died on July 3, 2016 at Langdale Hospice House after a short illness.
Born on November 23, 1949, to the late Tally M. Wisenbaker and Sarah Evelyn Finney Wisenbaker, Janice was a lifelong resident of Valdosta. She graduated high school from Georgia Christian School in 1967 and attended Alabama Christian College.
An active member of the community, Janice served on the boards of the Valdosta Pregnancy Support Center, South Georgia Chrysalis, Peachstate Summer Theatre ("PSST"), the Readers Forum, the LARC Foundation, the LARC Board of Directors, the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra Board and the Valdosta Symphony Guild, where she also served as Treasurer and President.
Janice founded the "LARC Invited Dress Rehearsal" which is presently known as the "James Glenn Wisenbaker Memorial Concert", an annual program that gives special needs adults an opportunity to enjoy an hour of symphonic music performed by the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra.
A founding member of Christ's Fellowship Church of which she is still a member, Janice was instrumental in starting the church's music program. She had previously served her former church, Cornerstone United Methodist Church, as the Music Director for the congregation's middle school children.
Janice is survived by her husband, Dr. James M. Allen, their children, Bret Allen (Martha Ann), of Pensacola, Florida; Scarlet "Bebe" Allen Cox (Dr. Jeff Cox), of Nashville, Georgia; and Richard G. Harris of Valdosta; her grandchildren Abby Allen and Davis Allen of Pensacola, Florida, Hailey Cox Collins (Alex), of Ocilla, Georgia, Sarah Allen Cox of Jacksonville, Florida, and one great grandchild, Owen Wright Collins, of Ocilla, Georgia.
Janice also has and is survived by two brothers, Tally M. Wisenbaker, Jr. (Carol), of Valdosta; Gary M. Wisenbaker, of Valdosta, a very special niece, Laura Henry (Chip), of Chesterfield, Virginia, and several other nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. She is predeceased by her parents and a brother, James Glenn Wisenbaker.
Funeral services will be held at 4pm, Tuesday, July 5, 2016 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Pastor Ken Webb officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1pm, Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the Jackson City Cemetery in Jackson, Georgia. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Mailbox Club, 404 Eager Road, Valdosta, GA 31602. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 3-4pm at the funeral home.
