Janice Marie Keel Powers, 68, of Hahira died Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida from injuries sustained in a house fire. She was born in Hahira on September 13, 1951 to the late Colon Jackson and Audrey Creed Keel and had lived in Hahira and Adel. Mrs. Powers was a Baptist and a retired medical receptionist/secretary. She was a graduate of Cook County High School where she played basketball. In her retirement she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and with her animals. Mrs. Powers was a twenty year breast cancer survivor.
Survivors include her husband of fifty years, David Powers; one son and daughter in law, John David, Jr. and Nancy Powers of Hahira; two grandchildren, Taylor Marie Powers and John William Powers all of Hahira; her sister and brother in law, Joyce and Kenny Morey of Hahira; her brother and sister in law, Jackson and Betty Keel of Pavo; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members; her best friend, Cynthia Hancock of Nashville.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Saturday, December 14, 2019 in the chapel of Martin/McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Gary Woods officiating. Burial will follow in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
