Janice Askegren Mayfield, of Valdosta, GA, formerly of Mobile, AL, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 17, 2013, at Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta, GA. Graveside service and interment will be held at 3:00 PM CST on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Mobile Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Hoyt Pearson officiating.
Mrs. Mayfield was born December 10, 1928 in Mobile, AL., to the late Frederick Askegren and Dorothy Ray. Mrs. Mayfield was a bookkeeper for the Mobile County Courthouse for 30 years. She was a devoted member of St. Francis Street United Methodist Church, then Westside United Methodist Church in Mobile and most recently a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church in Valdosta.
She is survived by her sister Clara Herrin of Montgomery, AL.; three daughters, Ruth Hanks and husband Art of Waldorf, MD, Susan Hurley and husband James of Valdosta, GA., and Holly McGucken of Destin, FL.; five grandchildren, Lenore Conver and husband Steven of Everett, Washington, Jason Hanks of Waldorf, Maryland, Chris Hurley and wife Tanya at Fort Polk, LA., Todd Hurley and wife Brandi of Lakeland, GA., and Stephenie McGucken of Norwich, England; six great-grandchildren, Genna Conver, Kaleb and Savanna Hanks, Bubba, Sissy and Sassy Hurley; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. The family expresses special appreciation to her doctors, Dr. Saurina and Dr. Eric Anderson and their staff and "The Girls", Vida, Ludell, Eva, Taffia and Rachelle for their loving care.
