Colonel Janet Aline Young; soulmate, loving mom and devoted friend, age 64, of Fayetteville, GA, passed away suddenly Sunday, August 13, 2023 in Waldorf, Maryland. She was born in Oklahoma City, OK on October 13, 1958, to the late Joseph Wayne Young and Helen Frances Kirby Young. She was a member of the Church of Christ and a retired Colonel in the United States Air Force.
Colonel Young is survived by her husband; Norman Shepard Koenighaus of Fayetteville, GA; a daughter, Diana Ashley Muralles & her husband Hassen Muralles, and grandson Logan Shepard Muralles of Griffin, GA; a son Matthew Ray Koenighaus of Fayetteville, GA; and three brothers; Gregory Young of Ocean View, Delaware; Mark Young of Navarre, FL; Jason Young of Oxon Hill, MD.
Colonel Young was Commissioned through Officer Training School and entered active duty in 1984. She served in a variety of Financial Management assignments throughout her career to include Chief of Accounting and Finance, Chief of Budget, Comptroller, and Squadron Commander positions at wing level. She held budget positions at Air Combat Command and Air Staff, and served a joint tour in both comptroller and programming positions at US Special Operations Command. Colonel Young also served as the Military Assistant to the Auditor General of the Air Force, Secretary of the Air Force, Pentagon, Washington DC. Her final position prior to retirement was Chief, Financial Services Division, Headquarters Air Combat Command, Langley Air Force Base, VA.
A graveside service for Colonel Young will be held at Noon on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Dasher Cemetery with Mr. David Nelson officiating. Friends are invited to share a meal with the family following the service at the Dasher Church of Christ. The family will receive friends at McLane Lakewood in Lake Park from 11-11:45AM.
