Jane Frances Duncan

December 29, 1921 — December 15, 2007

Jane Frances Duncan, of Valdosta, died at Langdale Hospice House on Friday, December 14, 2007, following a lengthy illness. Born in Roanoke, VA to the late Mr. & Mrs. Wiley Henderson Coon. Mrs. Duncan grew up in Virginia where she attended Roanoke College. She married her husband, Charles Henry Duncan, on January 25, 1942, and she and her husband were blessed to have traveled the world during his career in the U.S. Air Force that spanned nearly thirty years. Mrs. Duncan was a member of the Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School, she was a Girl Scout Leader and a Grey Lady with the American Red Cross during WW II. She was an avid reader and an excellent golfer in her younger years.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Charles Henry Duncan, of Valdosta; two daughters and a son in law, Jane Kern Duncan, of Atlanta and Deborah & David Wilder of Thomasville; beloved grandchildren, Gill Autrey, of Atlanta, Kern (Jason) Schwartz of Atlanta, Bedford Wilder of Tallahassee, Jane Foster Wilder of New York City, NY, and Duncan Wilder of Thomasville. Also surviving are three great grandchildren, Noah and Skyler Schwartz of Atlanta, and Isabel Autrey of Valdosta; two sisters in law, Anne Leitch Shelor and Mary Sue Newman; and a special friend, Catherine Minor. The family would also like to express their appreciation for the care Dr. K.G. Kumar has shown to the family over the years. Mrs. Duncan is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jane Frances Duncan.

A private family funeral service will be held today, Sunday, December 16, 2007 at the McLane Riverview Mausoleum Chapel. Entombment will follow in the McLane Riverview Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, 2263 Pineview Dr., Valdosta, GA 31602.
