Jamie Wisenbaker, 93, of Valdosta, passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 following a brief illness. He was born in Valdosta at Little Griffin Hospital on June 17, 1928 to the late Ben Hill Wisenbaker and Thelma Elizabeth Dowling Wisenbaker. He graduated from Dasher Bible School which is now Georgia Christian School and attended Harding University. He came home from college upon his father’s death. He then joined the U.S. Air Force and was later drafted by the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean Conflict. After his service ended he worked for National Airlines and then Railroad Express. He farmed throughout his life primarily as a tobacco farmer. The Wisenbaker’s loved to travel and had visited 49 of the 50 states and many other countries. He loved fishing, whether it was at Keaton Beach or for Halibut in Alaska. He was an active member of Central Avenue Church of Christ.
Mr. Wisenbaker is survived by his children, Jill and Russell Lawler, of Jacksonville, FL, Jason and Beth Wisenbaker, of Valdosta, GA, and Joni Wisenbaker of Athens, GA; his grandchildren Alexander (Hannah) Lawler, of Mandeville, LA, and Maggie (Zach) West, of Valdosta; his great grandchildren Caroline Lawler, Samuel Lawler both of Mandeville, La; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Crosby Wisenbaker, brother Ben Hill Wisenbaker, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Hoyt and Sue Crosby.
A graveside service will be held at 11am on Friday, June 25, 2021 at Dasher Cemetery with Mr. John Klimko and Mr. Alex Lawler officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5-7pm at Carson McLane Funeral Home.
