Jamie D. Carroll, 92, lifelong resident of Valdosta, died on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born on November 1, 1913, he was the son of the late W. W. Carroll and Christine Davis Carroll Wilcox. He was the widower of Lida Frances Garbutt Carroll who died in 2003. Mr. Carroll was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry and was Senior Warden. He owned and operated Carroll Packing Co. with his father for many years which was later incorporated into Sunset Farm Foods and is still operated by the family. He was also a cattle rancher, real estate developer and investor.
He is survived by two daughters, Lida C. (Sugie) Catikos of Valdosta and Lynn Ann Edwards of Ocala, FL; two sons and daughters-in-law, James D. (Jimmy) and Ingrid Carroll of Lake Park and W. W. (Bo) and Shirlee Carroll of Valdosta; grandchildren, Jamie and Gabrielle Catikos, Anna and Trent Coggins, all of Valdosta, Austen Davis Carroll of Vidalia, Josh and Jenny Carroll, Maggie Carroll all of Valdosta, Michael Davis and Lenka Carroll of Ostrava Czech Republic, Tom and Stefani Carroll of Valdosta; four great grandchildren; and three sisters, Harriet Ayers of Orlando, LouNelle Heaney and Doris Mills both of Valdosta. He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, George M. Edwards.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2006 at Christ Episcopal Church with The Rev. Peter L. Ingeman, The Reverend Lee Shafer, Deacon Stella Clark and Deacon Patricia Marks officiating. Burial of will follow in the Christ Episcopal Urn Garden. The family will receive friends on Thursday immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. Donations may be made to the Christ Episcopal Church Building Fund in lieu of flowers.
