James “Wilbur” Carter, Sr. 70, of Valdosta, died at his residence, Saturday, July 7, 2007. He was born on January 29, 1937 in Valdosta to the late James Hubert & Clyde Evelyn Vann Carter. Mr. Carter was a member of the Lake Park Church of Christ. He was a self-employed truck driver and retired from the Teamsters.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma (Montgomery) Carter of Valdosta; daughters & sons in law, Donna & Roger Vincent of Douglas, Teresa & Jeff Myers, Perry, FL; son & daughter in law, James, Jr. & Robin Carter of Valdosta; four step-daughters, Gail Richardson, Peachtree, City, Penny Montgomery, Stockbridge, Joy Roberts, Panama City Beach, FL, Debbie Chesney, Easley, SC; ten grandchildren, Roger L. Vincent, Jr., Pam Vincent, Douglas, GA, Justin, Cameron & Tessa Myers, Perry, FL, Kayla Hancock, Kacy Hancock, Tory Carter, Valdosta, Emily Carter, Jasper, FL; great grandchild, Gavin Myers Towles, Perry, FL; brother & sister in law, Bobby Gene & Claudette Carter, Valdosta; sisters & brothers in law, Jeneane & Ronnie Daniels, Macon, Gail & Perry Gerice, LaGrange, special brother, Ben “ Junie” Vann, Valdosta; numerous nieces & nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2007, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Mr. Evans McMullen and Mr. Marvin Greene officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens.
