James Terrance (Terry) Yates, Sr., 64, of Valdosta died on Monday, December 28, 2020 at South Georgia Medical Center following a sudden illness. He was born on May 6, 1956 in Bainbridge, Georgia. He moved to Valdosta with his family and has been a resident here for most of his life. He was a graduate of Valdosta High School and a member of Grace Pointe Church where he enjoyed worshipping with fellow Christians. He served as a supervisor with Crackin’ Good Bakery and late became the plant manager with Toufayan Bakery in Plant City, Florida. Terry loved to hunt, fish, and play golf, but more importantly, was proud of his family, especially his children, who meant the world to him.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Yates of Valdosta; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tiffany and Tony Poor of Joplin, Missouri, and Brandy and Mark Williams of Berlin, Georgia; his son, James (Trey) Yates, Jr., of Valdosta; his daughter, Shelby Yates of Valdosta; grandchildren, John-Mark Williams, Justin Williams, Abigail Williams, and Lilyann Williams; great-grandchildren, Jace Williams and Waverly Williams; his mother, Betty Sue Yates of Bainbridge, Georgia; a sister and brother-in-law, Rhonda and Jock Sanders of Valdosta; his father-in-law, Sam R. Ash Sr., of Valdosta. He was preceded in death by his father, James Harold Yates, and his brother, Tony Yates.
A memorial service for James Terrance (Terry) Yates, Sr., will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2021 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Pastor Dell Young officiating.
