James Edward Strickland of Echols County, Georgia passed away in his home on February 15, 2024. He was born in Echols County, Georgia on April 13, 1938. James, known to many as “Strick” was an enthusiastic farmer and grew everything from timber to beans. He took his first and last breaths on the land he farmed most of his life. He loved his country and served time in AirForce. In addition to farming, he spent time working as a barber and as a beekeeper. He loved to fish. He was always out to catch that ever elusive “big ‘en” that got away.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents, Bradford and Annie Maude Burnham Strickland; his sister, Cathy Corbett and daughter-in-law, Ruth Strickland.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Ann Strickland and his three children: Regina Davis of Oscoda, Michigan, Rodney (Kathy) Strickland of Lake Park, Georgia, and Kerry (Cindy) Strickland of Live Oak, Florida. Strick leaves behind 8 grandchildren (Andrew Selph, Rachelle Linville , Ashley Strickland, Kristin Selph, Amanda Stanley, Faith Smith, Cody Strickland, and Stanton Davis) and a slew of great-grandbabies. He also leaves behind one nephew, Eric Corbett of Idaho.
While one may never know all of his troubles or strife, we can be assured that frustration and bitterness are a reflection of sadness and sadness can only be felt after one has loved deeply. So, at the core of James Edward Strickland, there was love.
May you return to everlasting love and may you be at peace, as we will continue on and see you when our jobs here are finished.
