Steve Jennings, 66, of Valdosta, died on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Langdale Hospice House. Born in Americus to the late J.J. & Mildred Jennings, Steve grew up in Valdosta. He graduated from Valdosta High School in 1977 having played both football and baseball for the Wildcats. Steve started dating the former Joy Mead while at Valdosta High and they were married soon after high school. Steve also started working part time at CC Dickinson & Co. while in school and then went full time with them after graduation. He worked there in air conditioning supply for nearly 40 years before working briefly at the Hydraulic Shop. Steve returned to air conditioning supply, working for Associated Equipment for four more years before retirement in 2023. A consistent Wildcat football fan, Steve worked the chain crew at Wildcat football games for over 40 years. He also enjoyed being outside, spending time helping at the Zipperer Farm or hunting turkey and deer. Also, a faithful member of Park Avenue Church, Steve was a member of the Pairs and Spares Sunday School class, helped out with sound and technology during services and serving on numerous mission trips and opportunities.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Joy Mead Jennings, of Valdosta; his daughter and son in law, Stephanie & Troy Weathers, of Valdosta; three grandchildren, Jackson Weathers, Maci Weathers and Madison (& Chance) Folsom all of Valdosta. Also surviving are three brothers in law and two sisters in law, Bill & Pat Mead, Danny Mead, all of Hamilton, GA and James & Shirley Mead of Tifton and a sister in law and brother in law, Bobbi & Ed Fletcher of Melrose, FL; an aunt & uncle, Ann& Barney Simmons of Fayetteville, NC and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral for Steve will be held at 11 am on Friday, November 1, 2024, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Jimmy Towson, Rev. Jamie Bone and Rev. Craig Rikard will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday afternoon from 4 until 6 pm.
