James Roscoe Menear, Jr., 79, of Valdosta died on Friday, July 13, 2018, at Lakehaven Nursing Home following a short illness. Born in Bretz, West Virginia, on October 12, 1938, James was the son of the late Mattie Flo Taylor and James Roscoe Menear, Sr. A Vietnam Veteran he was one of the first permanent soldiers stationed in Vietnam. James retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service. He worked with the City of Valdosta as an Administrative Assistant and was a member of New Harvest United Methodist Church. James had a heart of gold. He never met a stranger, loved everyone, and was known for his affectionate nature. He lived to give and receive “hugs”. His hobbies included hunting and fishing.
Survivors are his wife, Lucille Minton Menear of Valdosta, son, Mike (Alena Dietzman) of Warner Robins, daughter, Brenda (Todd) Morrison of Valdosta; grandchildren, Ryan (Brittany) Menear, Chad Menear of Warner Robins, Kristin Morrison of Iowa City, Shaun Morrison of Valdosta; two expected great grandchildren; and his beloved poodle, Coco. James is preceded in death by his parents, his sons, Paul Allen Menear and Anthony Scott Menear; two brothers, Toddy Menear, Kermit Menear; three sisters, Betty Kilpatrick, Dottie Powell and Nancy Carrico.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 16, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Larry Houser officiating. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
