James Richard Carter

November 28, 1933 — January 25, 2007

James Richard Carter, 73, of Valdosta, died at South Georgia Medical Center on Thursday, January 25, 2007. Born on November 28, 1933, in Lowndes County, he was the son of the late Asben and Kesil Copeland Carter. Mr. Carter was retired from the City of Valdosta. He had served in the U.S. Army, was a Baptist and was a lifetime member of the Elks Club.

Surviving are his brother and sister in law, Marlyn and Betty Carter of Naylor, a sister in law, Verdie Carter of Valdosta and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Carter was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Edward Carter.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2007, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 5 – 7 p.m. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanefuneralservices.com.
