Jim Jennings, 64, formerly of Durango, CO, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Heritage Healthcare at Crestwood. He was born on March 29, 1948 in Brookline, Massachusetts to the late James Henry Jennings and Clara Anna Minard Jennings. Jim was a retired business executive, attended Crossroads Baptist Church, and was a lifetime member of the Rotary Club.
From an early age, Jim thoroughly enjoyed reading—from milk cartons to Shakespeare. He next fell in love with sailing—a love affair that spanned Boston's Charles River to the Caribbean. He was an avid hiker and camper; Colorado's highest peaks and myriad back pack trails were well known to him. And he was a world traveler, who made his mark in Europe and Australia alike. Jim dearly loved animals and brought to each relationship a unique perspective and special touch. He was also a fine wine connoisseur. Upon arriving in Valdosta, GA, in October 2006, Mr. Jennings enjoyed being involved in VSU's Learning in Retirement (LIR) and the local YMCA.
Jim is survived by his wife, Carol Lynn Jennings of Valdosta, his sister, Carol Agnes Norris of Valdosta, his nephew, James Andrew Matos and his wife, R. LuAnne, his great nephews, James Robert Matos and Patrick Henry Matos all of Columbus, Mississippi, his niece, Suzanne Lynn Matos North and her husband, Wayne Curtis of Valdosta.
A memorial service will be held Friday, March 15, 2013 at four p. m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend W. Glenn Gray officiating. The family will receive friends from three until four p. m. Friday at the funeral home.
