James McArthur (Mac) Thompson, 74, of Valdosta died on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Langdale Hospice House following a lengthy illness. He was born in Valdosta on March 7, 1943 to the late James E. Sr. and Kathleen Blanton. Mr. Thompson was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from PCA as Water Plant Operator. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, pulling a good prank here and there, and spending as much time as he could with his grandson. Mr. Thompson was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Thompson of Valdosta; his daughter and son-in-law, Christie and Mike Corbin, and his grandson, Tristan Corbin all of Lake Park; special friends he thought of as daughters, Donna Harris and her husband Dean, Kari Brown and her husband Kevin; other special friends, Keith Hitchcock, Tip and Annie Laura Culpepper, John and Sandra Kincella, and Pam and John Barrs; his loving pets, Molly, Buffy, Dixie, Bandit, and Tweety; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Melvin H. Thompson and James E. Thompson, Jr.
Services for James (Mac) Thompson will be held on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Schappaugh and Rev. Lee Graham officiating. The burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, the Humane Society or Hospice of South Georgia.
