James Lynn Clayton, 86, of Valdosta died Sunday, May 2, 2021 in Valdosta. He was born on February 12, 1935 in Jennings, FL to the late Preston and Eva Hicks Clayton. He grew up and went to school in Jennings until he went into the US Navy at the age of 17, during the Korean War. After serving four years of Active Service, he left the Navy and settled in Valdosta, where he met his Wife of 55+ years, Mae Nell Barrentine Clayton. James was a member of the Ministry Baptist Church in Ray City. He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and helping others.
Survivors include his son and daughter in law, Danny and Jeri Clayton, Of St. Louis, MO, nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, sister and brother in law, Linda and Richard Bennet of Lake Park, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mae Nell Barrentine Clayton, two daughters, Mary Diane Clayton Beebe, and Donna Lynn Clayton Hancock, a daughter in law, Jane Jennerman Clayton, two brothers Buddy Clayton and Warren Clayton, and a sister, Louise Clayton Corbett.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, May 8 2021 in the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral home with Rev. Wallace Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in the Good Hope Cemetery.
