James Kenneth Thompson

James Kenneth Thompson, 93, of Valdosta died Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Langdale Hospice House. He was born in Quincy, Florida on September 18, 1922 to the late Alexander Long and Lillie Mae Farnell Thompson. Mr. Thompson was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in World War II and was a retired teacher with Lowndes County School System. He was a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church and he loved music. He loved working around the house and in his yards and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Thompson of Valdosta; two sons and daughters in law, Michael and Nan Thompson of Valdosta, Donald and Carol Thompson of Quitman; grandchildren and their spouses, Kris and Stacy Thompson, Blake and Mallory Thompson, Hannah and Adam Penn, Alex Thompson; six great grandchildren, Molly Penn, Olivia Penn, Emery Thompson, Libby Thompson, Aiden Thompson, Kevin Thompson; his sister, Ellen Thompson McNeill of Americus; special friends, Gene and Lena Collins of Valdosta. He was preceded in death by a son, James Kenneth Thompson, Jr., a grandson, Kevin Michael Thompson and two sisters, Carolyn Thompson Harris and Virginia Thompson McKinley.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Langdale Hospice House and the Crossroads Baptist Church family for their care and support during Mr. Thompson's illness.
Funeral services will be held at 5pm, Sunday, January 24, 2016 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Ken Alford and Rev. Earl Justice officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4-5pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Crossroads Baptist Church, 3001 Country Club Drive, Valdosta, GA 31602 or to Langdale Hospice House, 2263 Pineview Drive, Valdosta, GA 31602.
