James (Jim) Edward Sims, 74, of Williamson, GA, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024, in Griffin, GA. Born on August 24, 1950, in Valdosta to the late Jack and Betty Hodges Sims. He graduated from Lowndes High School and attended Valdosta State University. He then joined the United States Air Force and served briefly as a Morse Code Operator. After discharge, Jim returned to Valdosta and briefly worked at Irving’s Men’s Shop. He then returned to the military and joined the U.S. Army and worked as a missile operator and as an assistant to a Colonel. After returning once again, Jim began a career as a letter carrier for USPS for 33 years before retirement. Outside of work, he loved planting trees, making his yard beautiful and spending time with family. Sports were also a favorite for Jim, playing and watching football and baseball, especially the Georgia Bulldogs. He was a member of Charity Baptist Church and most recently was attending Zebulon First Baptist Church, in Zebulon, GA.
Jim is survived by his wife Marie (Rea) Shaw Sims, of Williamson, GA, his son, James (& Avery) Moore, of Conyers, GA; grandsons, Felix Moore and Zane Moore both of Conyers, GA; his sister, Kitty (& Jerry) O’Neal, of Barney, GA. his sisters-in-law, Babs (& Joe) Thomas, of Sylvester, Nancy (& Randy) Anthony, of Fitzgerald, GA, Stephanie (& Mike) McMillan of Forsyth. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Mike Sims and Gary Sims.
Funeral services for Jim will be held at 11am on Monday, October 28, 2024, at the River Pavilion at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens in Valdosta, GA. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10-11am.
