James Jerome Grimes

June 20, 1927 — November 9, 2004

James Jerome “J.J.” Grimes, 77, of Clyattville, died on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at South Georgia Medical Center. Born in Emanuel County, Georgia, June 20, 1927, he was the son of the late J.R. and Ruby Kea Grimes. Mr. Grimes was a member of the Clyattville United Methodist Church. He was a Mason, St. Johns Lodge # 184, a Shriner and Scout Master with the Clyattville Boy Scouts. He was Fire Chief at Clyattville for more than 25 years, was an EMT with Ambulance Service and was employed with Valdosta Southern Railroad as a conductor for 45 years. Mr. Grimes was a member of the United Transportation Union for 50 years. He had worked with Sun Coast and Travel Country delivering RV’s for the past ten years and enjoyed fellowship with the Hardees of Lake Park Coffee Club. Mr. Grimes especially loved his grandchildren and was friend to everyone.

Survivors are his wife, Marie Grimes of Clyattville; sons and daughters in law, Randall Grimes of Pinetta, Keith and Kay Grimes of Valdosta, Alton and Gail Grimes of Clyattville; grandchildren, Sara Grimes, Jamie Gandy and Matthew Grimes; sister, Frances Graham of Valdosta; special friends, Danny and Donna Patterson of Hahira, Dana, Glenn and Jacob and Amy Gibbs of Hahira, Deanna and Harry Turner of Valdosta, Daniel and Kathryn and Gracie Patterson of Hahira, Will, Daphney, and Allisa Terrell of Valdosta.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 12, 2004, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend Mollie Danner and Reverend Ross Hudson will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery with Masonic Rites at the graveside. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 – 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made in memory of Mr. Grimes to the Clyattville United Methodist Church.
