James Jennings

January 3, 1938 — June 28, 2009

James (J.J.) Jennings, 71, of Valdosta, died suddenly at his residence, Saturday, June 27, 2009. He was born in Jeffersonville to the late F.T. (Pappy) & Sara Jennings where he graduated from Americus High School. He then moved to Valdosta were he graduated from Valdosta State College and he and his late father, Pappy Jennings, started the Athletic Program at the Valdosta Boys Club. He went on to coach at Naylor School and Lowndes Junior High School. Throughout his life, he loved and loved to perform music. He performed in several groups including Botie Chitty and the Top Hats, Joel Mathis and Countryside and the J.J. Jennings Band that often performed at the Twin Lakes Tavern. Later on, he hosted the J.J. Jennings Class Reunion Radio Show in the mornings on WVLD.
Survivors include his son and daughter in law, Steve & Joy Jennings of Valdosta; his granddaughter, Stephanie Jennings of Valdosta; and his sister and brother in law, Ann & Barnie Simmons of Fayettville, NC. He is preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Stundon and three brothers, Harvey Jennings, Bill Jennings, and Jack Jennings.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Willie Beasley will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. this evening, Monday, June 29, 2009. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Valdosta, 215 W.
