James Herman Coppage

James Herman Coppage, age 73, of Hahira, retired assistant City Engineer for the city of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at home at the Canopy at Azalea Grove. Born in Hahira, on January 16, 1950, Herman was a son of the late Roy and Bessie Cain Coppage. An Army Veteran, Herman had a 36-year career working as an assistant City Engineer. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He loved softball, was a music enthusiast, and enjoyed singing in the choir at his church, Calvary Baptist in Lake Park, where he was a devoted member.

Survivors are his sons, Joseph Lyle Coppage of Telluride, Colorado, Justin Cade Ply (Kayla) of Adel, Brandon Elliott Ply of Lanier; grandchildren, Holden Joseph Coppage of Telluride, Colorado, Melinda Jayne Mandaville of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Cade Bailey Ply of Valdosta, Madison Joy Ply of Valdosta, Kastyn Perry Ply of Adel, Kelsey Caden Gonzalez (Angel), Kolby Ryan Ply (Mallory) of Valdosta; two great grandchildren. Mr. Coppage was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Ralph Jackson Coppage, Etheridge Gordon Coppage, Ronald Eugene Coppage, Billy Joe Coppage, Edward Joseph Coppage and Mary Alice Nitschke. Mr. Coppage was also preceded in death by his wife, Joy Elliott Coppage.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. noon, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend Matthew Douglas will officiate. Justin Ply and Amy Wiegenstein will give eulogies. Mr. Coppage will be entombed in the mausoleum at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Bethany (Affinity) Hospice.
