James Haywood Vaughan, Sr. (Ret. Major USAF), 80, of Valdosta died Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Fellowship Home at Brookside. He was born on August 9, 1934 in Ashland, Virginia to the late Henry Guy and Vivian Cherry Vaughan. Mr. Vaughan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, retired from the United States Air Force and as a salesman from Baker Brothers. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his family. Mr. Vaughan served as a volunteer at South Georgia Medical Center for many years.
Survivors include his son and a daughter in law, James, Jr. and Susan Vaughan, daughters and son in law, Betsy Giddens, Jennifer and Chris Stevick all of Valdosta; his grandchildren, Brandon (Haley) Stevick, Chris (Eden) Stevick, Amelia Grace Stevick, Emilee Jane Giddens, Haley Dominey, Dylan James Vaughan and Allison Hiers; two brothers, Bill Marshburn and Ed Marshburn both of Ashland, VA; brother in law ans sister in law, Joe and Judy Hall of Valdosta; several nieces and nephews; and his family at the Fellowship Home at Brookside where he had resided for the past three years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Tillie) Hall Vaughan.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Sunday, June 14, 2015 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Willis officiating. Burial with full military will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
