James H. Levins, 87, of Valdosta, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2012, at his home.
Mr. Levins was born September 24, 1924 in Gasparilla, FL., a son of the late James H. and Maggie L. Hart Levins. During World War II Mr. Levins honorably served in the U.S. Navy, with stations in the South Atlantis and South Pacific. He was last employed as Chief Engineer at Plant City Steel Co., Plant City, FL.
He was a devoted communicant of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4913 and Knights of Columbus Assembly #2022.
He is survived by his wife, Etheline Turner Levins of Valdosta; five children, Richard A. Levins and wife Jane of Minneapolis, MN, James S. Levins and wife Peggy of Nashville, TN, Mary Lynn Levins and husband Dan Whicker of Valdosta, John J. Levins of Palmetto, FL, and Elizabeth Ann Thoreson and husband Karl of Palmetto, FL; nine grandchildren; two step-daughters, Sylvia Lee O'Berry of Valdosta, and Linda E. Stikkel and husband Fred of Valdosta; one sister, Betty Jean Smith of St. Petersburg, FL. Mr. Levins was preceded in death by two wives, Marie Dobbins Levins and Doris Allen Levins; a sister, Nancy Cleo Watson; and a brother, Paul Lynn Levins.
A Memorial Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 13, 2012, at Sunset Hill Cemetery, with Rev. Marvin LeFrois officiating. There will be no visitation. Condolences to the family may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com. Carson McLane Funeral Home, Valdosta.
