James Franklin Williams, age 90, of Valdosta, peacefully passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born in Albany, GA, on July 6, 1933, to the late Johnny B. Williams and Beulah Mae Daugherty Williams. As a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, James contributed to the historic launch of the first communications satellite sent into space by the United States. With a passion for technology, he embraced gadgets and was known for his tech-savvy nature.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Angela and Robert Bliss of Griffin, GA; Alice and John Urspruch of Covington, GA; Peggy Carter and Jimmy Brooks of Jackson, GA; Barry Herrin of Cumming, GA; and Michael Herrin of Port Gibson, MS. He is also survived by his thirteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, his brother Jack Williams of Valdosta, GA, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. James was predeceased by his first wife, Janice Williams Mobley, his second wife, Jean Scott Williams, and his sister Johnnie Mae Timothy.
