James Franklin Carter, Sr., 89, of Echols County, passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 16, 2023. James was born April 4, 1934, to the late Leon and Mertie (Hughes) Carter in Echols County. James was a farmer and logger in Echols County for over half of his life. He lived a full life of fun and joy with his family. James and Rosslyn were married for 34 years. During that time, they shared multiple occupations, convenient stores, and packing shed Georgia Select Produce. In their spare time they traveled together, went on cruises, and enjoyed family vacations. He was a long-time member of Enoch Creek Church.
James is survived by his wife of 34 years, Rosslyn Carter; his children, Belinda Peterson (Randy), Jamesina Carter (Mason), Vickie Carter Landaverde (Oliver), Charlene Carter, Franklin K. Carter (Kathy), Renee Futch (Rusty), Chris Speldrick, and James Carter Jr. (Courtney); his grandchildren, Tina Kay Visger, Charles Williams, Dewayne Hughes, Bryan Hughes, Stephanie Ramirez, Carlos Landaverde, Sierra Landaverde, Monica Wisenbaker, Anjaleah Dunn, Sandy Conway, Jamey Carter, Kacey Carter, Justin Garcia, Clint Carter, Kisten Speldrick, Christian Speldrick, Ashton Banas, James Carter III, Gage Spires, Landon Leon Carter, and 27 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Steven Johnson Jr.
Services for Mr. Carter will be held at 11am on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Enoch Creek Church in Lake Park. Burial will follow at the James F. Carter Family Cemetery.
