James Emmitt Barger, Sr., 85, of Hahira died Monday, October 24, 2011 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on April 25, 1926 in Loudon, Tennessee to the late Joseph J. and Louise Watkins Barger and had lived in Hahira for many years. Mr. Barger was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving from 1943-1946, United States Army serving from 1946-1949 and serving and retiring as a Master Sargeant from the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1968. He was a Mason and a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include two sons and daughters in law, Jimmy and Deborah Barger, Dale Barger all of Hahira, grandson and his wife, Rick and Kim Mears of Fayetteville, NC., two great grandchildren, Chelsea Mears and Chase Mears, his niece, Jean Strickland of Fayetteville, NC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Barger and numerous brothers and sisters.
Graveside services will be held at 11am, Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Friendship Cemetery with Mr. Phil Merwin officiating.
