Mr. James Edward Chaney, 80, a lifelong resident of Valdosta, passed away on November 3, 2010 at South Georgia Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Chaney was born February 4, 1930 in Valdosta to the late Elias and Alberta Chaney.
Written or spoken words will never express the deep abiding love he bestowed upon his family, nor will words ever adequately convey his family’s unconditional love for him. Devotion to his wife, children and grandchildren was paramount in every word, deed and action of his life. His generosity, thoughtfulness, kindness, loyalty and steadfast love will comfort his family with precious memories. He will be fondly remembered for helping others in their times of need and compassionately giving “the shirt off his back”.
Mr. Chaney owned A&B Distributing Company and was an active member of New Harvest United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Chaney; daughters Amy (Lloyd) Crumley of Valdosta, Beverly Pitzing of Valdosta, Donna (Wayne) Douglas of Newnan, GA, and Brenda (Frank) Delacruz of Atlanta; stepchildren, Debbie (Luther) Wilder of Brunswick, GA; and Mike (Carol) Stoddard of Gulfport, MS. Grandchildren: Dr. Whitney Douglas Buser of Atlanta, GA; Collin James Douglas of Macon, GA; Gracee Lynn Crumley of Valdosta and step-grandchildren: Aubree Crumley of Valdosta; Sara Mosely of Brunswick, GA and Michael Paul Stoddard of Murfeesboro, TN; great step-grandchildren Jade, Payton, Ryan and Evan. Survivors also include, sisters Cassie Berry of Fort Oglethorpe, GA and Carolyn (Lamar) Upshaw of Gainesville, FL and several beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
Funeral Services for Mr. Chaney will be at 2:00 pm Sunday, November 7, 2010, at New Harvest United Methodist Church, with Rev. Larry Hauser and Rev. Elvin East officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Chaney’s family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Saturday at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
