James Delk, better known as Papa James, 75 of Valdosta, GA., died on Monday, October 28, 2024, after a lengthy illness. Born on February 14, 1949, in Pearson, GA, he was the son of the late W.M. Delk and Alma Mae Luke. In 1980, he married his beloved wife Becky, and they shared a wonderful life until her passing in 2006. He was a truck driver and worked for Dillard’s for many years creating lifelong friendships. As much as he loved driving his favorite job was being a grandfather to his beautiful granddaughters, they were his pride and joy. He was an amazing father and a man that anyone could count on to be there for them. To know James was to love him. His sense of humor and smile would brighten the whole room. He loved being surrounded by family and friends and they loved being with him. He will be deeply missed.
Survivors are a son and daughter in law, Chris and Jessica Delk of Perry, GA, son, Mitchell Delk of Millwood, GA; grandchildren Kirsten and Kameron (Alex) of Sylvester, Braighlyn and Paighsley of Perry, and Anna Eunice (Clay) of Waycross, GA. Great-grandchildren include, Kayden Clark of Sylvester and Willa Kate Eunice of Waycross, GA; siblings, Ralph Delk of Pearson, Telly Delk (Bobbie) of Nashville, GA., Carl Delk (Deborah) of Nashville, GA, Johnny Delk of Pearson, Trishann Robinson of Nashville, GA, Janice Nisen (Johnny) Nashville, GA, Beulah Bradford of Nashville, GA., brother in law, Walt Green (Beth) of Hahira, GA., and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Becky Delk, parents, W.M. and Alma and siblings Winston, Lonnie and Eva Ruth. Brothers in law, Bobby Green and Billy McCowan.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Mr. Tony Terry will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the McLane Funeral Home on Friday evening November 1, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
