James David Burns, Sr., 70, of Quitman died on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at South Georgia Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born on February 7, 1941 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana to the late Louis R. and Pauline Hartung Burns. He was the owner/operator of Allen County Disposal in Ft. Wayne, Indiana and moved to the Quitman area in 1998. He was a member of Welcome Hill Church of Christ. He loved to fish, watch car racing, and working outdoors.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Spillers Burns of Quitman; son and daughter-in-law, James Jr., and Heidi Burns of Quitman; daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Dennis Jacobs of Valdosta; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Catherine Burn of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Matthew Waddell, Lucas Waddell, Brittnie Waddell, Abra Burns, Eden Burns, Austin Conklin, Chelise Steele, Desiree Burns and Katie Burns; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services for James Burns, Sr. will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the Welcome Hill Church of Christ with Mr. Jerry Herring officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
