James Cleveland Pearce Sr., 76, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, October 19, 2019 after a lengthy illness. Born in Berrien County on July 13, 1943, son of Cleveland Gus Pearce and Jewell Dorminy Pearce, James has resided in Valdosta since 1960. He met and married Mary Jamieson Pearce 51 years ago. He served 2 years in the United States Army and he worked at Miller Hardware for a total of 47 years. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church of Valdosta. His favorite pastimes were fishing and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Pearce; son and daughter in law, James (Jimmy) Cleveland Pearce, Jr. and Lindy; daughter and son in law, Janet and Greg Bennett; grandchildren, Megan and Massimo Moirano, Shelby Bennett, CeGee Bennett, Eason Pearce, all of Valdosta. Granddaughters, Emily Pearce of Bethesda, Md. and Kettley Donat of Lynchburg, Va.
Additional survivors include three sisters and brothers in law, Carolyn and J.B. Jones of Athens, Ga., Janie and Robert Sheffield of Valdosta, Ga., Claudette and Jack Morgan of Fort Myers, Fl. He is also survived by sisters-in law and brothers- in law to include; Sue Blankenship (Herbert – deceased) of Richland, Ga., Mattie Stapleton (Sam – deceased) of Mooresville, NC, Lou Heath (Roland – deceased) of Preston, Ga, Melba and Charles Burrell (Milledgeville, Ga.), Barbara and Cliff Baker (Milledgeville, Ga), Linda and Gerry French (Evans, Ga), Cecelia Jamieson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five bothers in law and one sister in law.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Dr. Gary Woods will officiate. Mr. Pearce will be interred at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens following the service. The family will receive friends and family at the funeral home on Monday, October 21, 2019, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
