James Berrian Turner

December 8, 1938 — May 18, 2005

James Berrian Turner, Jr., 66, of Quitman and formerly of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at Shands University of Florida in Gainesville after a lengthy illness. Born in Tifton, on December 8, 1938, he was the son of the late James B. Sr., and Sarah Belle Conoly Turner. He was retired from Owens Illinois. Mr. Turner served in the National Guard for 9 years. During the 60’s and 70’s he coached ball for the Valdosta Boy’s Club. He was a Mason and member of Moody Lodge 719, and past member and Past Grand Master of St. Johns Baptist Lodge #184. Mr. Turner was a Baptist.

Survivors are son and daughter in law, Greg and Charlotte Turner of Valdosta; daughter and son in law, Terri and Joe Weldon of Valdosta; grandchildren, Trey West, Brent Turner, Jamie Turner, Matthew Turner all of Valdosta; sister and brother in law, Lucy and Ron Walker of Mount Dora, Florida; nieces, Cathy Lykkebak of Winter Springs, Florida, Annette Wright of Wellington, Florida; Mr. Turner had maintained a close relationship with his former wife, Margaret Turner of Valdosta and her daughters, Susan Scherer Jones of Valdosta, Lisa Scherer Ciurro of Tampa, Florida. Mr. Turner was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Faulkner.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2005 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend Wayne Dorsett will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery with Masonic Rites at graveside. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 5 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
