JAMES ALLISON PHELPS, 87, of Valdosta died Saturday, March 17, 2007 at his home. He was born on December 1, 1919 in Moultrie to the late Mack Talley and Mamie Dillingham Phelps and had lived in Lowndes County most of his life. Mr. Phelps was a retired construction contractor, enjoyed fishing and a member of the Eastern Heights Baptist Church. Mr. Phelps was a veteran of the United States Marines having served in the South Pacific during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Letha Courson Phelps of Valdosta, daughter, Deborah Phelps Blanton of Lake Park, son and daughter in law, David and Linda Phelps of Valdosta, daughter and son in law, Donna and Joseph Rowe of Hinesville, 8-grandchildren, 14-great grandchildren, three brothers and sisters in law, Donald and Pauline Phelps of Valdosta, Raymond and Myra Phelps of Jacksonville, Fla. and M. T. and Rita Phelps of Astor, Fla. and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one grandson, one sister and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm, Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at the Eastern Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Skip Van Nus officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Cemetery in Berrien County. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 12 until service time at the church.
