Jairus L. Cowart, 93, of Valdosta died Thursday, March 20, 2008 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on July 11, 1914 in Cook County to the late Thomas and Lula Mae Allen Cowart and had lived in this area most of his life. He was the oldest member of the Morningside Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II. Mr. Cowart was retired from the Civil Service and recently received an award as an honorary member of NARFE.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Cowart of Valdosta, daughters and son in law, Pat and Ed Kelly of Thomasville and Becky Parker of Cumming, GA., son and daughter in law, Dale and Donna Cowart of Nashville, TN., daughter, Becky Wolf of Virginia and son, Thomas D. Mann of North Carolina, 11-grandchildren, 6-great grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters in law, Raymond Cowart, Roy and Leatha Cowart, Richard and Glenda Cowart all of Valdosta, one sister and brother in law, Madelon and Lloyd Kile of Drippin Springs, TX. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Laura Cowart, three brothers, Claude Cowart, T. W. Cowart and Myron Cowart and two sisters, Sara Walker and Clyde Daniels.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Saturday, March 22, 2008 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in the Fellowship Cemetery in Cecil. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6-9pm at the funeral home.
