Jackie W. Moxley, 81, of Valdosta, known to her family as "Mama or Mamaw", passed into eternal peace on Friday, December 18, 2015 at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born in Jacksonville to the late Holbrook & Marion Whitehurst, and grew up in Adel, graduating from Cook County High School. Mrs. Moxley was always a hard worker and helped to provide for her family. She worked for Roses Department stores in Valdosta and Albany for over 20 years, then worked in management for Walmart Corporation for over 20 years before her retirement. Mrs. Moxley loved life, loved to travel and loved serving others. She and her late husband Doug Moxley traveled throughout the country on trips and they collected Christmas gifts all year long in order to distribute them to children at Christmas time. In addition, each year the Moxley's were known to extensively decorate their home to celebrate the holiday season. She was also active in her community in other areas such as participating in charitable causes and activities with the Lyons Club, and going to Senior Dances. Mrs. Moxley was an excellent cook and enjoyed eating with her family. She attended First United Methodist Church in Hahira.
She is survived by her children Raymonda VanLuven of Havana, FL, Ricky Atkinson of Vinton, LA, Bubba Williams and wife Dana of Hahira, Tonya Hannah of Gainesville, Jeff Moxley and wife Michelle of Pace, FL and Jenni Moxley of Spur, Texas; a brother and sister in law, Perry & Regina Whitehurst of Florida and a brother in law David Moxley and wife Sue of Valdosta. Also surviving is a son-in-law David Joiner of Hahira; eight grandchildren, Tyra Sturdivan and husband Mark, Tay Duran, Nikki Wynn and husband Brent, Matthew Joiner and wife Jessica, Brock Williams, Shelbi Moxley, Zach Moxley and Dylan Moxley; six great-grandchildren, Charlea, Tres, Lillie, Harper, Stella, and Knox and special friends, Betty Joe & Al Sculley. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Perian Joiner, a son, Ray Moxley and a grandson, Jake Williams.
The Memorial Service for Mrs. Moxley will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday December 21, 2015, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend Mike Davis will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hahira First United Methodist Church.
