Jackie Altman

Jackie C. Altman, 68, of Valdosta, died on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at South Georgia Medical Center after a short illness. Born in Atlanta on October 26, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Celeste Codding. A 1965 graduate of Valdosta State University, she received her Master's in English from the University of Georgia with an emphasis on Southern Literature. Jackie was certified to teach secondary English and Elementary School. During her 30 years of teaching she taught at Cook County High School, Lowndes County High School, Valdosta High School and S.L. Mason Elementary. She retired from teaching with the Valdosta School System. Jackie was a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for 15 years. She was active with the Georgia State Senior Golfers Association, and she enjoyed traveling, working with flowers and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors are her husband, Walter G. Altman, III, sons and a daughter in law, Walter and Susie Altman, Daniel Lamar Altman of Valdosta all of Valdosta; a grandson, Ethan Perry Altman of Americus; mother in law, Lamar Altman, brothers and sisters in law, Bill and Jennifer Altman, Jadan and Ronnie Pitcock, Mary Beth Altman all of Valdosta; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Jackie was preceded in death by her father in law, Walter G. Altman, Jr. and a brother in law, Ken Altman.
Funeral services for Jackie C. Altman will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 4:30 p.m. at Park Avenue United Methodist Church. Reverend Hale Bishop and Reverend David Gordon will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday evening at the Carson McLane Funeral Home from 5 – 7 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Youth Program at Park Avenue United Methodist Church or to the Pearlman Cancer Center.
