JACK HEYWOOD PUCKETT, 78, of Valdosta, died Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at his home. He was born in Hahira on February 11, 1930 to the late Edward D., Sr. and Mary Hall Puckett. He was educated in the Valdosta School System and served for six years in the United States Navy having went on several world tours. Mr. Puckett was retired from Moody Air Force Base as a personnel specialist and Valdosta City School System as treasurer of sports finances. He pulled chains for the Valdosta Wildcats for thirty years that came second to his love of the First United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir for many years. Mr. Puckett was a Red Coat at South Georgia Medical Center having served 16, 500 volunteer hours.
Survivors include his wife of fifty six years, Judith M. Puckett of Valdosta, son and daughter in law, Glenn Heywood and Tracy Puckett of Orangeburg, SC., daughter, Cheri Wilder of Valdosta, grandson and granddaughter in law, Justin and Alina of Gulport, MS., grandson, Jonathan of Orangeburg, SC., granddaughter, Victoria of Las Vegas, grandson, Jeremy and granddaughter, Summer both of Valdosta, two brothers, Ed Puckett, Jr. and James L. Puckett both of Valdosta.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Saturday, November 15, 2008 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Mason officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5-7pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 220 N.
