JACK FRANKLIN HOWELL, 77, of Hahira passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born on Feburary 3, 1929 in Lowndes County to the late Joseph Franklin and Erie Folsom Howell and was a lifelong resident of Hahira. Mr. Howell graduated from Hahira High School in 1947 and was a retired dispatcher with the Hahira Police Department. He attended the Salem United Methodist Church and was an avid outdoorsman with an interest in wildlife conservation and forestry.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Grace Thomas Howell of Hahira, his four children and their spouses, Pat and John Murchison of Woodstock, GA., Sherry and Gordon Sale of Danville, KY., Lane and Danny Cashwell of Hahira, Greg Howell of Philadelphia, PA., his eight grandchildren, Faren Hart, Patrick Murchison, Lee Sale, Leslie Sale, Dei Cashwell, Lindsey Cashwell, Gregory Howell, Jr. and Megan M. Howell, four great grandchildren, Zoie Hart, Phoebe Hart, Alex Murchison and Mollie Murchison, one sister, Johnnie Lou New of Valdosta. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucy Bland, Dorothy Nash and Annie Laura Bell.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Thursday, October 12, 2006 in the chapel of Martin/McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Houseal officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Martin/McLane Funeral Home of Hahira.
