J. Y. Brooks, Jr.

J.Y. Brooks, Jr., 91, of Valdosta died Monday, September 10, 2007 at his home. He was born in Waverly, Kentucky on October 20, 1915 to the late John Yancy, Sr. and Ann Eliza Griggs Brooks and had lived in Valdosta since 1938. Mr. Brooks was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a retired salesman with Valdosta Cigar and Tobacco Company. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II and was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include three cousins, Truman Griggs, Peggy Griggs Berry and Jean Griggs McClure all of Henderson, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be held at 11am, Friday, September 14, 2007 at the Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Thomas Mason officiating. Entombment will follow in the Riverview Mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, P.
