J.D. (Jay) Dishner, 74, of Lake Park, Georgia, died on Saturday, January 15, 2005 at his home after a lengthy illness. Formerly of Tucson, Arizona, he had made his home in Lake Park since 1988. Mr. Dishner was born in Jonesboro, Tennessee, on September 19, 1930, the son of the late Clyde and Roxie Dishner. He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1950 – 1954, during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Japan. Mr. Dishner coached football, baseball and other sports for 28 years at Amphitheater Junior High School in Tucson, Arizona. He coached the Pirates Football Team over the years with a 166 wins and 11 losses record. A beloved coach, he was passionate about the sport and loved the players, always helping them to advance to higher levels. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed and participated in all types of athletics and outdoor sports. Mr. Dishner was a member of the First Baptist Church, Lake Park.
Survivors are his wife, Burnese Dishner of Lake Park; daughter, Andrea Dishner Palmer of Tucson, Arizona, grandson, Andrew Palmer of Tucson, Arizona; daughter and son in law, Felice and Bill Wisen of Lake Park; stepchildren, Debbie Dishner Kern and Richard Dishner of Tucson, Arizona; sister, Anna Mary Bradley of Neptune Beach, Florida; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home Chapel, Lake Park, Georgia. Reverend Robert Dawson will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
