Ishmael "Ish" L. Jones, 84, of Hahira died on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at the Heritage Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. He was born on May 11, 1927 in Brooks County and has been a lifelong resident of this area. He served his country in the Navy in WWII aboard the USS Harmon. He was a retired resident engineer for the State of Georgia after 26 years of service. He was a building contractor and a master brick mason. He helped in the construction of over 70 churches in the local area. Ish was an avid hunter his entire life and was a lifetime member of the American Hunting Association, Ducks Unlimited, and the American Rifle Association. Ish was a member of Charity Baptist Church where he was instrumental in building the new church in 2001. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and family man.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Talitha B. Jones of Hahira; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Linda Jones also of Hahira; a granddaughter and her husband, Amanda and Bert Wilson; two grandsons and their wives, Jamey and Heather Jones of Quitman and Chad and Dawna Hiers of Boston, Georgia; two step grandsons and their wives, Rusty and Jenny Richards and Britt and Kayla Richards all of Newnan, Georgia; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Jones; a daughter, Linda Hiers; a son, Harry Jones; one step-son, Ricky F. Richards.
Services for Ish Jones will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Charity Baptist Church with Dr. Clyde Stokes and Rev. Lee Graham officiating. The burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
